Our passion belongs to beautiful books

On this page, we would like to introduce you to various types of paper that are particularly well suited for printing books.

You can find a detailed overview of our range of grammages and formats on the Homepage of Europapier Austria GmbH

almost wood-free, coated papers

or mechanical coated sheets (MCS)

These papers are used for, among other things:

  • school books
  • children's books
  • comic books
  • travel guides

These papers are available in 65-100 g/m² in silk, matt, volume 1.2 and gloss finishes and are characterised by their good opacity (light impermeability).

Other possible applications include the production of publishing previews, operating instructions, inserts/explanations, e.g. for board games, product catalogues, etc.

woodfree uncoated offset papers

woodfree uncoated (WFU)

These papers are used for, among others:

  • children's books, comics

  • guidebooks, exercise books, dictionaries

  • books with a high proportion of text

  • books that are intended to have a tactile feel

Another possible use is in the production of magazines (e.g. lifestyle, culinary, tourism). In addition to classic bright white offset papers, uncoated wood-free papers are also available in warmer colours, with special surfaces (extra rough/extra smooth) and special volumes (1.3; 1.5; 1.75; 2.0 vol). These papers are used to produce books with a sophisticated look and special sujets.

They are also used in the production of sheet music or music books, books with special haptic requirements, and literary/fiction books.

woodfree coated papers

woodfree coated (WFC)

These papers are used for, among other things:

  • art books

  • musuem guides

  • high-quality cookbooks/culinary books

  • self-help books

  • children's books

  • travel guides

This type of paper accounts for a large proportion of book production, as it is available in a wide range of grammages from 70 to 400 g/m² and in different paper surfaces: silk, matt, matt with special sheet thickness (volume) and gloss.

wood-containing uncoated papers

These very high-volume papers are used for, among other things:

  • paperbacks (Soft Cover)

  • puzzle magazines/ puzzle books

  • comic books

  • user manuals

  • novels and literary fiction books in general

As these papers have a certain tendency to yellow when exposed to daylight due to their high wood pulp content, they tend to be used for short-lived or budget applications in black and white text printing.

100% recycled papers

This paper is used to meet specific environmental requirements for resource-efficient recycling and is manufactured using as little energy as possible.

Recycled papers are available in various forms:

  • coated

  • uncoated

  • different degrees of whiteness (from the typical ‘recycled colouring’ to bright white)

These papers are used as an alternative to wood-free uncoated and coated papers, or as an alternative to wood-containing papers.

high-quality paper and cardboard

are available in a wide range of weights, colours, surfaces, embossings and other finishes, and are used for applications including:

  • greeting cards & high-quality envelopes/ mailing bags

  • image printed matter

  • presentation media

  • high-quality soft-cover envelopes

  • book cover materials
